The University of Sydney is Australia’s oldest tertiary institution and with a student population in excess of 46,000, it is one of the largest and most eminent in Australia. It ranks amongst the world’s top 40 universities.

A new university branding strategy initiated the commission to design University gate markers as well as directional signage. The designs had to fulfill the new brand’s objectives, aspirations and values.

The solution carries the vision of a contemporary design in context with the institute’s history. The gate marker design is reminiscent of a book but is constructed with stainless steel; featuring concave and convex folds, and a contemporary wordmark.

In their complexity the markers express the present and future aspirations and values of Australia’s oldest university.
