Moyne Shire Destination Tourism – Interpretive and Wayfinding Signage Strategy
LOCATION
Moyne Shire, Victoria
Moyne Shire is located in Victoria’s South West, 250 kilometres west of Melbourne on the Great South Coast. The municipality stretches from the Great Ocean Road in the south to the pastoral area of Mortlake in the north. In 2012, Port Fairy was voted the world’s most liveable community of towns with a population of under 20,000, in the UN-recognised LivCom award. In 2021 Port Fairy was awarded Victorian top small town by VTIC.
Scope:
Framework for improving tourism signage throughout the Shire. The aim was to create a unified, consistent approach to signage for visitors to have a whole of region experience.
Goal:
Current and future tourism related signage facilitates and influences clear and safe travel, enhancing the dispersal of visitors and connection with the people, place and stories of the Moyne Shire region.
Methodology:
Signage is a powerful tool for communities to develop a strong brand and identity whilst also providing effective links and information for the visitor economy.
