Australia’s leading and most innovative retirement, aged care and wellness precinct, a $164 million project comprising 32000sqm on a 12000sqm site.
The project features three buildings. The Melba building is for independent living, with a deli/cafe facing the plaza and the Sol Botanica restaurant.
The slightly sloped precinct plaza leads to the Dining Plaza which is encircled by the restaurant, themed gardens and the 4-story grand atrium of the main building. The main building features a rehabilitation centre, a wellness centre, gym, a 25m lap pool, cinema and a 1500sqm rooftop garden with Orangerie and activity rooms.
The project is a mix of contemporary architecture and Moorish-influenced interior design. The latter was the inspiration for graphics and signage.
Minale, together with Evette and Mark Moran, developed the brand architecture, the naming convention, 27 wordmarks, glazing graphics and signage.
The glazing graphics cover an area of 530sqm. At the main entry, a dense and large scale pattern produces a strong introduction to the Moorish theme. The Atrium features a sparser diamond pattern to showcase the view out towards the restaurant and to complement the rich furnishings. For the pedestrian bridges, a different pattern shows a combination of diamonds reducing in size and density as it progresses from L1 to L4. The pattern for the Orangerie is more organic with diamonds of different formations alluding to the opening and closing of flowers.
In 2017 the Urban Development Institute of Australia awarded Australia’s Best in Seniors Planning for Mark Moran Vaucluse.
Mark Moran explains the project and the ethos:
“It is a wellness and lifestyle precinct, not a retirement village, based on community engagement and integration, celebrating life and that prevention is certainly the best cure”.
“Our culture is about removing the stigma around ageing by allowing people to celebrate and enjoy and share the best time of their lives in what really is an ageless community.”
