As part of the $165 million project a new four-storey Clinical Services Building opened on the campus delivering a range of clinical spaces including a new Emergency Department, Medical Imaging Department, Intensive Care Unit, Perioperative Units, Inpatient Units, a Maternal and Newborn Unit and carparks.
The Final Works program includes renovating and refurbishing parts of the original hospital, transferring services into new spaces.
We were responsible for concept design, design development and detailed design of wayfinding signage.
Aboriginal Language Signage
The signs feature graphic representation of plants and flowers found in the region including yellow box gum, ribbon gum, banksias, and banksia pods.
The patterns and designs were created by Aboriginal students from the Crescent School in Goulburn which focuses on the teaching and learning of students with disabilities. Local artist Monica Bridge worked with the students through a creative art class to produce the designs. Students experimented with the texture of different leaves and pods, exploring painting techniques which included pressing leaves and seed pods to produce patterns across a long stretch of butcher’s paper.
We received the brief for 16 panel locations and developed the graphic composition, typeface and size, panel size, each with a different text. The text comprises the botanical and known name of the plant and its name and phonetics in 3 aboriginal languages and the plant usage by Aboriginal persons over time in the English language.
